Medicine-Assisted Therapy
What Is Medicine-Assisted Therapy?
Medicine-Assisted Therapy refers to the legal use of MDMA and psilocybin in clinical settings for the treatment of specific mental health conditions. In Australia, these therapies are only permitted under the guidance of psychiatrists who are Authorised Prescribers (APs) approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
MDMA is available for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Psilocybin is available for Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)
These treatments are not widely accessible, and eligibility requires a formal diagnosis, previous unsuccessful treatment attempts, and a referral to a psychiatrist authorised to prescribe.
Who Is This For?
You may be eligible to explore these treatments if:
You have a formal diagnosis of PTSD or TRD
You have tried at least two other therapeutic approaches (e.g. talk therapy, antidepressants) without success
You are open to participating in a structured, clinical treatment protocol
You understand that access is limited and out-of-pocket costs currently range between $10,000–$30,000+
Please note that Altered Integration does not provide psychedelic medicine or prescribe treatment.
How We Support
While we do not facilitate or deliver psychedelic treatments, we offer the following support:
Education & Guidance
Learn more about how psychedelic-assisted therapy works in Australia, what is legal, and where to find ethical support.
Referrals to Trusted Practitioners
We work closely with clinicians and integration therapists experienced in this emerging space. With your consent, we can connect you to professionals currently working under legal frameworks.
Integration & Harm Reduction Support
If you are engaging in or have completed a legal treatment, or simply seeking support to make sense of a non-ordinary experience (e.g. breathwork, trauma, spiritual emergence), we provide integration services that are respectful, non-judgemental, and trauma-informed.
Is This Legal?
Yes—but only under specific conditions.
As of July 1st, 2023:
MDMA and Psilocybin are reclassified as Schedule 8 controlled medicines
They can only be prescribed by a psychiatrist who has TGA Authorised Prescriber status
All use must occur in a structured, clinically approved setting
Use of psychedelics outside these frameworks is still considered illegal in Australia
We strongly advocate for harm reduction, safety, and ethical care. We do not encourage or facilitate the use of illegal substances.
